“My soul still hath them in remembrance, and is humbled in me. This I recall to my mind, therefore have I hope.
It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed, because his compassions fail not.
They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:20-23
The Book of Lamentations is literally a book of sorrow and wailing.
The judgments that were coming and to come and the destruction of many because they had turned from Jehovah God and the prophet needed to express his anguish.
As we learned, in us expressing anguish God reveals to us hope.
Jeremiah was recalling this to his mind and as he remembered the goodness of God, his soul was humbled within him at the presence and protection and goodness of the one who cared for him through all the terror near.
His hope in remembering that it was only the sheer mercy of God that had kept him.
No matter what today had held or how we may have stumbled, Lord’s will, we would have tomorrow and with the newness of each and every day, God’s mercies are completely renewed.
Every single day!
As long as we have repented, yesterday holds nothing and God has given us his goodness to begin again a brand-new day.
Before I give you the go to verses that you can recall to mind when needed.
Let me give you one final verse as we finish up this series about mercy.
This one specifically deals with those who refuse to show mercy.
James 2:13: “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath sheweth (shown) no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.”
I think we all want to be on the mercy side. Those who have shown no mercy will be shown no mercy.
So here are a few verses to remember because these are God’s promises to you!
Matthew 5:7: ” Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.”
Ephesians 2:4: “But God, who is rich in mercy, for his great love wherewith he loved us.”
Psalms 66:20: “Blessed be God, which hath not turned away my prayer nor his mercy from me.”
Psalms 27:7: ” Hear, O LORD, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me and answer me.”
Psalms 90:14: ” O satisfy us early with thy mercy, that we may rejoice and be glad all our days.”
Psalms 62:12: “Also unto thee, O Lord, belongeth mercy: for thou renderest to every man according to his work.”
Psalms 118:1: “O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good; because his mercy endureth for ever.”
Psalms 118:4-6: “Let them now that fear the LORD say, that his mercy endureth fore ever.
I called upon the LORD in my distress: the LORD answered me, and set me in a large place (peace and safety).
The LORD is on my side; I will not fear; what can man do unto me?
Psalms 106:8: ” The LORD is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and plenteous in mercy.”
I hope these verses will bless you as you remember that you are loved, and his mercy and grace go before you, and you can rest and find joy and peace in that love.
Peace & Blessing to you.
